The purpose of the City’s Planning Division is to provide a safe, attractive and well-developed community. The Planning Division reviews proposed developments to ensure they comply with the City of La Mirada's Zoning Ordinance.

The Planning Division strives to assist residents, property owners, business owners, and developers in understanding local design and land use requirements.

Why does the City have rules and regulations regarding Planning and Zoning?

The City has these rules and regulations to ensure that projects are built in harmony with existing developments and do not negatively impact existing adjacent uses.  By obtaining Planning Division approval you are:

• Helping to maintain the City's high standards;
• Helping to ensure that home improvements are attractive and fit well within their neighborhoods; and
• Maintaining La Mirada’s property values and quality of life
