Street Sweeping is provided by the City of La Mirada to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the Community and to help alleviate trash from entering into the storm drain system and subsequently polluting our oceans.  All residential streets and major arterials are swept once a week.

In order to effectively service the community, the City imposes parking restrictions on regularly scheduled street sweeping days.  Signage with the days and times are posted at the entrance of all housing tracts.

You may visit www.lamiradarecycles.com/service-schedules/ to identify your collection day and sweeping day. For residents who do not have access to the Internet, please contact the City’s recycling coordinator at (562) 902-2385 for more information.

FAQ's Street Sweeping

Are parking restrictions enforced on street sweeping days when it's raining?

Every effort is made to sweep the streets, even when it rains. Vehicles are still subject to citation regardless of the weather conditions.

Can I sweep leaves and grass into the street for the street sweeper to clean up?

No, you must place this waste in your green barrel. The street sweeper is not designed to remove piles of leaves and debris, and therefore will bypass them. Remember everything that gets thrown in the street goes down the storm drain, which leads directly to the ocean.

How do I obtain an exemption for my vehicle on street sweeping days?

Exemptions are typically granted for residents that are having construction done at their property, or for non-operable vehicles.  The exemption is good for one day only.  Contact the La Mirada Sheriff's Station at 562 902-2960 for an exemption or for more information.

What do I do when the Trash Pick up is delayed one day due to a holiday and the street sweeper is now on the same day?

You can place your trash, recycling, and green waste bins on your parkway so the refuse company can collect them and the street is still swept.

What if my street sweeping day falls on a holiday?

If your street sweeping day falls on a holiday, then street sweeping is not performed for that day. Your sweeping will resume the following week and the other sweeping days are not affected.  The City's Street Sweeping provider observes the following holidays:

New Years Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Lincoln Birthday
Presidents Day
Caesar Chavez Day
Memorial Day
Juneteenth
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day

The day after Thanksgiving
