La Mirada Community Foundation Awards Scholarships

The La Mirada City Council recently recognized nine graduating seniors who were awarded scholarships by the La Mirada Community Foundation.  The students were selected for the scholarships based on their outstanding academic achievements, community service, and volunteer work.  The La Mirada City Council congratulated the recipients and presented them with Certificates of Recognition.

Matthew Casillas, Madison Constantine, Mackenzie Eaton, Raquel Preciado, Isabel Urquiza, and Maximo Vazquez received the Bob Jenkins Scholarship named for the long-time community volunteer who served as President of the La Mirada Community Foundation.  This scholarship was available to students who served their community and plan to attend college.  Applicants submitted an essay on the value of community service and highlighting their involvement in La Mirada.

Daniel Kim, Daniel Landre, and Lucinda Rubio received the Southern California Edison STEM Scholarship.  Students who plan to major in Business, Computer and Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Technology, Natural Resources and Conservation, and Physical Science were eligible to apply for the STEM scholarship.  The STEM scholarship was available to students who reside in La Mirada and have applied to an accredited college. 

Since 2005, the Community Services Foundation has awarded $59,750 to 63 graduating seniors from La Mirada and residents attending other local high schools.
