La Mirada residents may safety dispose of personal household hazardous waste on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at La Mirada Regional Park. This event will be held in the Tennis Court parking Lot near Adelfa Drive. Staff from the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts will be available to collect items. A limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip will be enforced.
Follow the tips below to better prepare for the HHW collection event:
- Place HHW in a sturdy box to prevent spillage. Be prepared to leave containers and boxes at the site.
- Place like chemicals together and separate unlike chemicals.
- Make sure containers are not leaking and lids are tightly sealed.
- Place boxes in car trunk, away from passengers during transport.
- Remove all other items from trunk.
Examples of what can be brought to a HHW collection:
- Motor oil, oil filters, brake fluid
- Used antifreeze
- Paint, paint thinner, turpentine
- Cleaners with acid or lye
- Pesticides or herbicides
- Household batteries or car batteries
- Pool chemicals
- CRT's, old TV's, misc. electronics
- Mercury thermometers or thermostats
- Used Needles or Sharps (In a Sharps container or sturdy box labeled "SHARPS")
- Unwanted or expired prescriptions
Examples of what cannot be brought to a HHW collection:
- Explosives
- Ammunition
- Radioactive Materials
- Trash
- Tires
- Business Waste
- White Goods (stoves, fridges, etc.)
- Controlled Substances
