CITY OF LA MIRADA
Mayor Lawrence P. Mowles was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 8, 2011, and re-elected on March 3, 2015. He is a Navy veteran, and recently retired after working in the insurance industry for over 30 years.
Mayor Mowles served on the City’s Planning Commission from May 2009 to March 2011. He was a member of the City’s Public Safety Commission from May 2007 to May 2009. He was also a member of the City’s Community Services Commission from November 2000 to June 2007.
He is a founding member of the La Mirada Community Foundation where he served from August 1999 to May 2007. He served as the Foundation President from November 2000 to June 2007. While serving as a member of the Foundation, he was responsible for the operation of the “4 La Mirada Kids” Carnival, which raises funds for youth programs and community organizations.
Mayor Mowles has been a resident of La Mirada for over 40 years. He and his wife Paula have four grown children and nine grandchildren.

MAYOR PRO TEM STEVE DE RUSE

Mayor Pro Tem Steve De Ruse was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 8, 2011, and re-elected on March 3, 2015. He works as the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Artesia after serving nearly 13 years as a senior pastor at a church in La Mirada. He has been a small business owner, track coach for John Glenn High School, television program host, radio guest commentator, and currently a faculty member for New Zion Theological School.
Mayor Pro Tem De Ruse served on the City’s Community Services Commission from November 2006 to March 2011. He served as Chairman of that commission from August 2008 through March 2010. Mayor Pro Tem De Ruse also served on the Citizen Task Force on City Finances and Operations from November 2009 to April 2010.
Mayor Pro Tem De Ruse as a member of the La Mirada Clergy Council from 2001 to 2010, served as president from 2001 to 2005. He is a member of the La Mirada Rotary Club serving as president from 2010 to 2011. Mayor Pro Tem De Ruse served on the Southeast Area Social Services Funding Authority (SASSFA) Board of Directors from April 2011 to April 2015 and served as Chairperson from 2013-2015. Currently he served as a board member for the I-5 Consortium Cities Joint Powers Authority since April 2015 and Sanitation District No. 18 since April 2013. Additionally, he serves on the Executive Board for the Los Angeles Southern Baptist Association.
Mayor Pro Tem De Ruse holds a Master’s Degree in Theology and a Doctor of Ministry Degree, both from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. He has been a resident of La Mirada since 1976. He and his wife Mary have been married for 46 years and have two daughters, Adrienne and Elaine, plus one granddaughter Sophia.

COUNCILMEMBER ED ENG
CITY OF LA MIRADA
Councilmember Ed Eng was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 3, 2015. Councilmember Eng has over 20 years of executive management experience leading large companies in both the private and public sectors. Councilmember Eng is currently the Executive Director for the Economy and Efficiency Commission, an independent advisory Commission to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Previously, he was the Vice President/Western Regional President for the Los Angeles Times. He also spent 15 years in the utility industry in various senior managerial positions. Additionally, he has served as a corporate board member for several companies.
Councilmember Eng earned his Bachelors of Science Degree from UCLA and was a registered professional engineer in the State of California. He received his first Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles, and earned his second Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University, with emphasis in management and strategy formulation. He has also taught marketing and management courses at UCLA’s School of Business and the University of Phoenix.
Councilmember Eng served on the City’s Community Services Commission from 2011 to 2015, and was Chairman from August 2014 until his appointment to the City Council. He has also served as President of the Matador Scholar Academy Booster Club at La Mirada High School, President of the High School’s Boys Basketball Booster Club and board member and coach with National Junior Basketball League.
Councilmember Eng has been a resident of La Mirada since 1990. He and his wife Cathy, a tenured teacher, have one son, Brandon.

CITY OF LA MIRADA
Councilmember John Lewis was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 7, 2017. He is the managing partner at the Law Office of Lewis & Lewis, APC. He is also the managing broker of Lewis Realty located in La Mirada.
COUNCILMEMBER ANDREW SAREGA
CITY OF LA MIRADA
Councilmember Andrew Sarega was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 5, 2013 and re-elected on March 7, 2017. He has been a resident of La Mirada for over 25 years during which time he attended Escalona Elementary School, Benton Middle School, and La Mirada High School, graduating in 2005 with highest honors. After attending Biola University, Councilmember Sarega moved to Europe for two years where he played professional soccer for various European clubs.
Upon returning to the United States, Councilmember Sarega completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Fullerton. He is a retired police officer with the City of Newport Beach. In 2012, he was awarded the Life Saving Award for his actions while on duty. Councilmember Sarega has also obtained his Master of Public Administration degree from National University and currently runs his own small business.
Councilmember Sarega has served as the chairman of the Contract Cities Membership Committee, executive board member on the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, and executive board member with California Contract Cities Association. He currently represents La Mirada, Pico Rivera, La Habra Heights, Whittier, and Santa Fe Springs on the Southern California Association of Governments as a regional council member. SCAG is the largest metropolitan planning authority in the country and is responsible for growth in the Southern California region. Councilmember Sarega also serves on the statewide Public Safety Committee for the League of California Cities.
Councilmember Sarega lives in La Mirada with his wife Susan.
