The La Mirada City Council recognized the La Mirada Armada swim team for its Athletic achievements while competing at local and national levels.

This past summer, 13 swimmers competed at the USA Swimming Future Championships in Santa Clara.  The team had a number of outstanding swims including La Mirada resident Noelle Fimbres, who took first place in the 1650 freestyle, and Bianca Preciado, who won the 100 butterfly. La Mirada Armada swimmer Rosalee Santa Ana represented the Philippines at the Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Members of the La Mirada Armada had the opportunity to travel to Long Island, New York to compete in the U.S. Junior Nationals and the National Championships.  During these events, Taylor Ault earned first place in the 400 freestyle.  Courtney Tseng was a consolation finalist in the 800 freestyle, Kevin Vargas place in the 400 individual medley, and Katie Sulkevich placed in the 800 freestyle.

A number of Armada swimmers have also advanced to be college level competitors and have received swimming scholarships.  La Mirada resident Nikki Chang recently graduated from USC on a swimming scholarship.  Corey Mayfield also started off with the Armada and has recently graduated from Brown University after swimming competitively all four years.

“La Mirada is proud be represented by a phenomenal team like the La Mirada Armada,” says Community Services Director Lori Thompson.  “The young talent combined with the amazing work of the club coaches creates an environment of success for these athletes.”
