La Mirada Commissioners Recognized for Dedicated Service
The La Mirada City Council recognized Jim Emmerling, Jack Miranda and Dr. Stephen Smith for their years of outstanding service to the community during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Jim Emmerling served on the Public Safety Commission from October 2012 to March 2017. During his tenure, Mr. Emmerling reviewed crime and traffic statistics and made recommendations to the City Council on enhancement to traffic circulation.
Jack Miranda served on the Community Services Commission from August 2015 to June 2017. As a Community Services Commissioner, Mr. Miranda evaluated and provided input on the City’s recreation and social services programs.
Dr. Stephen Smith was one of the founding members of the La Mirada Community Foundation and served as a Foundation Member from 1999 to May 2017. During his years of service, the Foundation improved the quality of life in La Mirada by supporting services and programs designed to meet the social, physical, developmental, and recreational needs of local residents.

The City’s advisory bodies serve as an important part of the City’s policy-making process. Advisory body members are appointed by the City Council and are responsible for performing studies on municipal issues and rendering opinions and advice to the City Council, as well as providing input on community goals.
