New Smoking Restrictions at City Parks and Facilities
The City Council has established new restrictions on smoking in public recreational areas and City facilities. A recently adopted ordinance aims to protect the public health and welfare by prohibiting smoking and exposure to second hand smoke at parks, the Civic Center, and other City facilities.
The new law includes updated definitions, reflects existing State law on cigarettes, prohibits smoking at all public parks and City facilities, identifies electronic cigarettes, vapors, and marijuana as prohibited uses, and allows enforcement by fines.
A public education campaign is currently underway to notify the public about the new smoking restrictions.
Signs will be posted informing the public about the new rules. For more information, call (562) 943-0131.
