La Mirada Captain K-9 Program: Dog Owners Help to Prevent Property Crime
La Mirada dog owners are invited to help in the ongoing effort to prevent crime. The “Captain K-9” Dog Walker Watch program encourages recreational dog walkers to serve as an extra set of eyes and ears for law enforcement. Captain K-9 participants will be trained to effectively observe and report suspicious activity while on routine walks with their dogs.
“Residents who walk their dogs know their neighborhoods well and are able to spot things that are out of place,” says Safety Education Officer Mary Cipres. “Dog walkers are for helping to keep our community safe.”
The next Captain K-9 meeting will be held on Thursday, March 23 in the Creek Park Amphitheater, 12021 Santa Gertrudes Avenue, at 6 p.m. Dog owners and their dogs are encouraged to attend.
Captain K-9 participants will learn to observe and report suspicious activity, identify criminal behavior, and help dispatchers and officers respond to potential criminal activity.
